On a trip to the west coast,
I realized I was totally lost without my art supplies. I didn't want a lot to carry, as I was on a bicycle, so I chose conte pastel. I did a series of portraits of Native Americans, using 3 colors.
Curtis photographed a beautiful young girl in the 1800's when her world was in turmoil. His photo inspired me to create this image in pastel .
