Native Americans have a beautiful story of how the loon got its spots. It was the only bird with courage to dive to the bottom of the lake to retrieve the moon who had fallen in. The Creator blessed loons with the beautiful design of its plumage. Indeed, the spots look like sparkles of moonlight on water, a perfect camouflage for daylight sparkling clear water and moonlight on water. The call of the loon can restore the heart of one who loves the wilderness.
